DIY Dry Shampoo Powder

July 22, 2015 by Kaylee Eylander

Cheap Dry Shampoo powder

I’ve been using Dry Shampoo for a really long time….Read my post about the No Poo Movement here. Before I stopped washing my hair every single day, I would wake up and say…”I don’t need to wash my hair today”, then by 2pm, my bangs would have turned from “bed head” to greasy mess. It always frustrated me and I did use Dry Shampoo at the time, but wayyyyyyyyyy back then it was so expensive!!

I was wondering if there was a way to make it on my own…and I have now found a super cheap and easy solution!!

This stuff is amazing, wonderful and best of all, I had all of the ingredients in my pantry.

I was in a rush before our missions trip to Bulgaria and I tried to use an empty spice container that I had just used the contents of…and um….it smelled like Johnny’s Steak Seasoning. Nope. That just doesn’t work for me! I realized that because arrowroot powder absorbs the oil in my hair, it would also, logically, absorb the smells of the spices. oops! Live and learn! Learn from my mistake!

So…When I saw the empty spice containers at Winco (in the bulk spices section), I knew I could make a new batch that was going to smell spicy and wonderful!

How to apply: Shake some Dry Shampoo into your palm, about 1 TSP at a time, rub hands together, then apply to your part, bangs and the crown of your hair. Brush through!

Let me know how it goes! I would love to hear!

I like baby powder too…but I hate the smell of it! :/

I will have to try. Usually dry shampoo sprays make my scalp itch. Out of curiosity why do you prefer dry? Do you only use it when traditionally washing is inconvenient or in between traditional wash days?

arrowroot powder on amazon is super inexpensive and will last you forever. plus you can use it in place of cornstarch in cooking 🙂 Kaylee, I loved your blog post about this stuff (And about all the other random stuff you are into, such as when you covered GABA supplements). I’m already a Dry Shampoo Convert and I am obsessed with trying all the different brands. I really should consider my own mix though!

Thanks for sharing this! Stella still showers every other day, but I’ve been considering dry shampoo on the off days to keep it looking better.
